Panama Red is a vigorous passionfruit vine known for its large, attractive red/purple fruit, juicy pulp and strong tropical flavour. It is an excellent choice for home gardens, pergolas, fences and trellises.

☀️ Growing in Perth
Panama Red can perform well in Perth when given good drainage, regular water and protection from strong winds. Plant it in a sunny, warm position against a strong trellis or pergola.
During Perth’s hot, dry summer:
- Water deeply and regularly.
- Apply 5–8 cm of organic mulch, keeping it away from the stem.
- Protect the root zone from excessive heat.
- Provide sturdy support because the vine becomes quite heavy.
🌱 Planting preparation
Improve the soil with compost and well-aged organic matter before planting. Passionfruit dislikes waterlogged soil, so improve drainage if your soil is heavy clay. Install the trellis or support before the vine becomes established.
🌿 Fertiliser
Use a fruit-tree/passionfruit fertiliser or a balanced slow-release fertiliser.

- Late spring: Second feed
- Summer: Light supplementary feeding if the plant is actively growing and fruiting
