Growing Prunus nigra in Perth
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-draining soil. Perth’s hot, dry summers mean young trees need regular deep watering while establishing. Applying organic mulch around the root zone can help retain soil moisture and protect the roots from summer heat.
Provide adequate space for the tree to develop and prune lightly when required to maintain its shape and structure.
Landscaping Importance
Prunus nigra can bring spring flowers, summer foliage and autumn seasonal interest to larger residential gardens, streetscapes and ornamental landscapes. Its deciduous nature also allows more winter sunlight into areas where the tree is planted.
