🌿 Lavandula ‘Snow Princess’
Lavandula ‘Snow Princess’ is a beautiful white-flowering lavender cultivar, valued for its elegant white flower spikes, silvery foliage and compact growth. It is well suited to Perth’s Mediterranean-style climate and makes an excellent choice for borders, cottage gardens, pots and low-maintenance landscaping.
🌸 Main features
☀️ Care in Perth
‘Snow Princess’ performs particularly well in full sun and free-draining soil. Perth’s hot, dry summers suit lavender, but poor drainage and overwatering are the biggest problems.
Planting:
Improve heavy or sandy soil with quality compost and a well-draining soil conditioner. Avoid planting where water remains around the roots.
Watering:
Water deeply after planting while the plant establishes. Once established, allow the soil to dry between watering. During very hot Perth summers, occasional deep watering is preferable to frequent light watering.
Fertiliser:
Lavender doesn’t require heavy feeding. Apply a slow-release fertiliser suitable for flowering plants in early spring. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.
✂️ Pruning
Prune lightly after the main flowering flush to maintain a compact shape and encourage branching. Avoid cutting deeply into old, woody stems, as lavender may not readily regenerate from old wood.
🌱 Landscaping importance
Lavandula ‘Snow Princess’ is particularly useful when you want white flowers instead of the traditional purple lavender. It works beautifully alongside silver foliage plants, native Australian plants, roses and ornamental grasses. Its drought tolerance and pollinator-friendly flowers also make it a strong choice for low-water Perth gardens.
