How to grow in Perth
Sun: Full sun is best. Morning sun and good light are important for strong flowering.
Soil: Use well-drained soil. Kangaroo paws do not like sitting in wet soil, particularly during Perth’s wetter winter months.
Water: Water regularly while establishing. Once established, they are relatively drought tolerant, but occasional deep watering during hot, dry Perth summers helps maintain flowering.
Fertiliser: Apply a controlled-release native fertiliser in spring. Avoid excessive phosphorus.
Pruning: After flowering, remove old flower stems and trim away tired foliage. A harder tidy-up can encourage fresh new growth.
Landscaping importance
Bush Crystal Kangaroo Paw is an excellent choice for Perth’s Mediterranean climate. Its compact growth and striking flowers make it useful along pathways, in garden beds, around entertaining areas and as a feature in native gardens.
It combines particularly well with grevilleas, westringia, leucadendrons, lomandra and other Australian natives.
